MS Office: Reduced Functionality Mode

Reduced Functionality Mode

Microsoft Office provides an option to try the software first before purchasing it. This gives an option to use the software for a period of 60 days and then it goes to reduced functionality mode which means we have access to those programs but some of the features will be disabled.

In reduced-functionality mode, programs function similarly to a viewer. When running in reduced-functionality mode, many menu items are unavailable (greyed out) thereby blocking access to that functionality. Some of the limitations of reduced-functionality mode include the following limitations:
  • You cannot create any new documents.
  • You can view existing documents but you cannot edit them.
  • You can print documents but you cannot save them.
No existing Office files or documents are damaged, and you can easily get Office out of this mode by following the instructions outlined in the screens presented.

How to overcome Reduced functionality mode:

This will be done only by activating the program. There are two types of licenses that we can activate apart from trial license. They are following license types are available:
  • Perpetual
  • Subscription
Perpetual license :
A perpetual license lets you use the Office programs as long as you own the product . It applies to 2007 and 2010 versions.

Subscription :

A subscription license lets you use the Office programs for a determined time. It applies to 2007 and 2010 versions.
It will show this screen to activate the version.
